Well Apple is targeting the iPad to techies and to be honest they won't buy into the hype. They should target people who don't already own an iPhone, iPod, Macbook or Kindle. Most people already own an iPad, just as separate gadgets.
Come to think about it, it is true on how you stated that Apple should target people who don't already own an Apple product and I think I fit great in this category.
